Florida State University is continuing its effort to further strengthen research and graduate education in STEM disciplines with a focus on the centers located in Southwest Campus. As part of this effort the Florida Center for Advanced Aero-Propulsion (FCAAP) is recruiting two highly qualified faculty who have a proven record of success in the FCAAP areas of strength and can complement and substantially expand the existing research strengths at FCAAP.
The ideal candidates should also have a proven record of interdisciplinary research across engineering and science disciplines so that they may take advantage of the considerable resources at the various research centers and institutes in the Southwest Campus that exist alongside FCAAP including: Aeropropulsion, Mechatronics and Energy (AME) Center, the Applied Superconductivity Center (ASC), the Center for Advanced Power Systems (CAPS), and the High-Performance Materials Institute (HPMI). These centers are also hiring interdisciplinary faculty as part of this strategic recruitment initiative.
The Florida Center for Advanced Aero-Propulsion is a multi-university, state-wide, Center of Excellence that is led by Florida State University (in partnership with the University of Florida, University of Central Florida and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University) with unique resources and strength in a number of research areas including: Active Flow and Noise Control; Advanced Diagnostics; Sensors, Actuators and Control Design; Unsteady Aerodynamics and Bio-Inspired flight/locomotion, among others. The FCAAP faculty have built very successful externally sponsored research programs that are often multi/cross-disciplinary and multi-institutional. The center has also developed very unique test and diagnostic facilities as well as strength in advanced computing and simulations. FCAAP facilities at FSU are located at Aeropropulsion, Mechatronics and Energy (AME) Center, a multi-disciplinary state of the art research facility and include some of the following:

We seek applicants at mid-career or senior level who have an established record of innovation, sustained externally funded research, a high research profile and excellence in teaching. Evidence of interdisciplinary research is critical. Though the search is open to highly qualified applicants in a broad range of disciplines, some areas that are relevant to FCAAP while offering opportunities for interdisciplinary research with other centers include:
- Advanced Diagnostics and with emphasis on fluid mechanics with applications.
- Computational and Theoretical Sciences with emphasis in aeroacoustics, fluid dynamics, and fluid-structure interactions.
- Dynamics and Controls with applications one or more of the following systems: aerospace vehicles, transportation systems and/or other complex systems.
Successful candidates are expected to make significant contributions to scientific leadership in their areas and participate in teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels. A highly competitive salary and start-up package, high quality research space and access to state-of-the-art instrumentation, computing and research facilities in academic and interdisciplinary units will be offered. Although we expect the principal department for FCAAP positions to be in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the home department will be determined by the candidate's field of expertise.
